Madison Academy had been effected by all the ice, sleet and snow that has hit the southern states. Because of the terrible road conditions and unusually low temperatures combined with the desire to keep our families and young drivers safe, school was again closed March 5 and 6. During the week of February 16 the same wintery conditions of ice on the roads with snow as a top layer made travel hazardous. The Metro government declared an emergency and asked people not to be out on the roads and asked business in the area to use a skeleton staff. This latest storm comes one day before our students and staff leave on the Madison Global Missions project in Panama. We are praying for safe travels, no injuries on the work-site and God’s blessing for those being served and our team.
Pastor Bernie Anderson and his wife Christina shared with the Madison Academy family thoughts on sexual purity during a weekend seminar, February 27 and 28. The series began at Madison Academy for chapel as Pastor Anderson spoke to the students and staff and shared some of his story and how pornography impacted his life and those he loved. The next meeting was at Riverside Chapel were he continued his dialog especially for teens and shared more of his story. He spoke at Madison Campus Church for both 1st and 2nd services. In the afternoon there were concluding meetings with adults and then meetings with teens. Mrs. Anderson spoke with the ladies and Pastor Anderson spoke with the young men. The response has been positive. We appreciated hearing Pastor Anderson’s journey, and seeing God’s grace at work.
Dan Johnson was awarded Coach of the Year for Division I in Middle TN by the Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. He has been coaching a co-op swim team including Madison Academy, Merrol Hyde Magnet School, and Station Camp High School for four years. This year’s team won the Division I title and has a state champion in two events. Congratulations Mr. Johnson!
The Learning Complex which houses six classrooms, fine arts, fitness room, gymnasium, and lunch room will get a much needed facelift in the next two months. Funds raised and matched in December will be used to re-sheet the metal siding, replace the awnings, paint the trim, and add some exterior lighting.
In addition, a generous donor is providing for the installation of new energy efficient lighting inside the gymnasium. Volleyball players in the community will be glad to know we will eliminate the bright spots and dark corners. The savings on our NES bill will help the operating budget, too.
In coming months, the Academy will be working with an agency to develop a Master Plan for campus facilities and property. Your prayers in this process are truly appreciated. In the meantime, we must maintain and protect the physical assets we have. Thank you to the many donors who are helping ensure we can!
Madison Academy’s missionaries are preparing for a great adventure to Panama. For ten days, twenty-five students and adults will be working on a church and leading out in a daily VBS program. What a priceless experience for our young people!! We would love for the school family, church, and community to support with this outreach by helping with supplies for the VBS program. We could use any paper supplies, scissors, crayons, crafts, clay, and coloring books. Please feel free to drop off these supplies to Madison Academy before March 3. In addition, we would be grateful for your prayers during our trip.
